Under general supervision, implements, maintains, and resolves problems with SQL Server databases. Oversees access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods. Maintains database dictionaries and integration of systems through database design. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Designs and implements databases and maintains database dictionaries. Ensures documentation is complete and up-to-date.
Develops and applies procedures relating to database and application security including all access procedures. Regularly reviews and changes access authorizations and verifies that unauthorized persons cannot access applications and data.
Develop, monitor, and enforce flexible, non-restrictive standards for SQL Server 200 and 2005 databases. Monitor and tune SQL Server database subsystems to unsure optimum performance.
Defines and designs logical and physical relational data structures, which requires interviewing users and understanding their data usage requirements and needs, as well as working with applications programming.
Monitors access time, performs validation checks, and uses other methods to monitor and analyze database performance. Utilizes appropriate measurers to ensure acceptable performance, including changing device allocations and file size, building indices, reorganizing tables and purging data. Ensures databases will support growth, change and access demands.
Develops and applies procedures for periodic database backup. Determines backup method and frequency. Ensures that databases can be restored quickly and completely from backup files.
Develops recovery plans to provide an adequate level of protection in the event of database problems.
Participates in the evaluation, design or acquisition, and implementation of enhancements to business applications.
May perform analysis, feasibility studies and vendor comparisons leading to the acquisition of database-related products, including database monitors, utilities, query tools, and connectivity solutions.
Develops and maintains a schedule and associated budget for all assigned product and services.
