Houston Interfaith Worker Justice Center is hiring one part-time Workers� Rights Promoter (20 - 25 hours per week).

Purpose:

To empower workers to improve working conditions in low-wage jobs in the Houston Metropolitan Area.

Responsibilities:

1. Education: Provide Workers Rights Trainings to low-wage workers throughout the Houston Area at the Workers� Center, churches, community centers and events. Create & distribute educational materials for workers.

2. Casework/Wage Recovery: Intake of new Cases, Create a plan with workers, connect with allies in the religious community, government agencies, attorneys and social service provides and Execute plan with support of staff. Work with employers to recuperate unpaid wages.

3. Organizing/Campaigns to Improve Working Conditions: Meet with workers & create spaces for collaboration between workers and aforementioned allies and execute Plans of Action.

4. Leadership Development: Identify leaders among workers and create plan to develop a leadership at HIWJC. In collaboration with the staff, identify, train and mobilize the religious community on low-wage workers struggles for justice on the job.

Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice

2. Bilingual Spanish/English (Reading, Writing and Speaking)

3. Significant experience with community organizing and worker & immigrant rights

4. Familiarity and comfort working with the religious and labor communities

5. Strong writing and personal skills

6. Must have Car

7. Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings & weekends

8. Computer Skills (Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and database)

The work will be evaluated based upon this job description�s responsibilities, the specific goals and objectives established, and the person�s cooperativeness and contributions in meeting the overall goals and objectives of the organization. This job description will be re-evaluated after the first year to ensure accurate accountability.

Location: Houston, Texas
Compensation: Salary Range negotiable based upon experience, partial individual health and dental insurance, paid vacation, holiday and sick leave.
