Category Manager

Job Description:
The Category Manager is responsible for the operation and growth of the SiteStuff Maintenance, Repair and Operating (MRO) categories. This includes: enhancing manufacturer and supplier relationships; improving supplier and operational performance metrics; assisting in the enhancement of the technical infrastructure; assisting with formalizing policy, procedures, and controls; identifying/executing sales and marketing opportunities for assigned product categories; and ensuring the appropriate breadth and depth of product coverage. The ultimate success of this role will be measured by the financial performance of the responsible categories, improvements for affected suppliers and their corresponding metrics, and the overall customer satisfaction ratings of SiteStuff. This role requires a solid combination of analytical skills, a track record of executing against loose requirements, and benefits from both sales experience and janitorial product knowledge.
The Category Manager is supported by a category specialist who reports to him or her.
Specific requirements:
• Manage supplier performance
o Analyze supplier performance metrics
o Drive under-performing suppliers to higher performance levels
o Document policies and procedures
o Build relationships with key decision makers as needed
• Review current distribution networks and make recommendations/implement changes as needed
• Manage and maintain manufacturer and distributor pricing, negotiate pricing improvements on products as needed, support national account negotiation efforts
• Manage daily operations
o Resolve escalated order related problems
o Maintain margin targets
o Support account management/sales staff as needed - provide subject matter expertise and assist with the execution of systematic programs to facilitate incremental sales
• Lead and manage assigned product category specialist
o Prioritize tasks and structure priorities to maximize performance, assist with daily issues as needed
o Provide leadership and mentorship
o Conduct periodic reviews and goal setting exercises based on company schedules
Skills/Capabilities/Experience Required:
• 4 year college degree required, MBA preferred
• Strong business sense, commercial product distribution background preferred
• Experience leading, managing and working within teams in dynamic environments
• Proven capability of executing against a loose set of requirements
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong analytical capabilities
• Demonstrated success at juggling multiple tasks and adapting to rapidly shifting requirements
• Strong proficiency with MS Excel, intermediate proficiency with MS PowerPoint, MS Access and Visio
• Flexibility to work beyond standard hours as needed, limited travel (<10% may be required)
