Job Title- Cost Accountant

Department - Accounting

Basic Function

Responsible for administering and assisting in the formulation of general acceptable accounting practices. Also responsible for the financial accounting functions of the preparation of reports and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash balances, balance sheet account positions and other financial results of operating units and to assure that reports accurately reflect the condition of the business and provide reliable information necessary to control operations.

Nature and Scope

Principle Duties

� Maintain ledgers and certain sub-ledgers of the Division

� Prepare cost estimates of new or special products for establishing selling prices and production forecasts

� Responsible for routine compilation of parts manufacturing costs for payroll, inventory accountability, distribution of factory labor, verification of actual costs and computation of variances, etc.

� Calculate burden rates, set up expense budgets for manufacturing

� Check and clear data on labor and materials costs burden and expense items, inventory, and profit and loss adjustments

� Devise, install or control systems for determining unit cost of products or services

� Distribute costs between the various divisions of management and production

� Classify production costs into wages, material and overhead

� Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the payroll and recording of payments and totals, including the distribution of labor and related expenses. Responsibility extends to the accurate reporting of W-2 and pension earnings

� Responsible for the application of cash received from Customers for Accounts Receivable and the monthly close and reconciliation to the General Ledger

Accountability

Reports to the Controller.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

� B.S. Degree in Accounting (or equivalent) plus 5 years of accounting experience

� Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MAPICS and Hyperion

� Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally

� Must be able to meet all required deadlines

� Must be able to work periodic overtime

� Sound ethics, values, integrity and trust

� Action oriented, problem solver, good process management and managerial courage

� Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter

� Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
